Public urged to call 310-SPCA with tips about dead dog found in George Burke Park area

IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Thunder Bay, ON (February 17, 2017) – The Thunder Bay & District Humane Society and the Ontario SPCA are urging members of the public to come forward with information about a deceased puppy that was dumped in a wooded area along the walking path of George Burke Park, behind Tamarack Place.

On February 1, 2017, the Thunder Bay Police Service received a call from a resident about a puppy found dead in a wooded area by local students.

The deceased puppy is a black and tan female Shepherd-type breed, approximately six months old, who was wearing a red/black plaid collar.

Ontario SPCA agents from the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society arranged for a post mortem of the female puppy to be performed by a veterinarian and starvation has been determined as her cause of death.

“If you heard or saw anything, or if you know who owns this dog, please come forward with that information,” says Lynn Michaud, Senior Inspector, Ontario SPCA. “The puppy’s death was senseless and inhumane.  We would like to bring the person, or persons, responsible to justice.”

Call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or 310-SPCA (7722) with any information that could assist in this investigation.

If you see an animal in distress, call 310-SPCA immediately.  All calls remain anonymous.
