IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Brampton, ON (March 9, 2017) – The Ontario SPCA and Brampton Animal Services are seeking information from the public after a duck was found, still alive, with a crossbow bolt through its chest.
Brampton Animal Services and the Ontario SPCA responded to a call on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 about a duck on Loafer’s Lake in Brampton, near Hurontario Street and Sandalwood Parkway East. The duck was found with a small yellow-coloured crossbow pistol bolt, about six to seven inches long, protruding through its chest area. Seven additional yellow-coloured bolts were found on the bank on the west side of the creek that runs beside the lake.
Brampton Animal Services and the Ontario SPCA are working with Peel Regional Police to determine who shot the duck, which remains at large. Brampton Animal Services and Brampton Fire and Emergency Services Water Rescue officers attempted to capture the duck to have it treated by a veterinarian, but the bird flew away and could not be relocated.
If you have any information that could assist in this investigation, please call 310-SPCA (7722). If you see the duck, contact Brampton Animal Services immediately at 905-458-5800.
“If you witnessed anything unusual in that area, please come forward,” says Alison Green, Senior Inspector, Ontario SPCA. “We take cruelty against animals very seriously and want to bring the individual, or individuals, responsible to justice.”
